Tips on optimizing Your macOS / OSX Dock

There are many hidden things you don't know about OS X aka macOS. Lets call it macOS here after. The last 3 releases of macOS featured many many improvements over previous releases. The high improvements landed in Yosemite(spell it yosh-emit-ee). The follow up El-Capitan improved some, and another set of big changes came up in macOS Sierra 10.12. In this post, lets see how we can optimize the OSX Dock for maximum usage.


The Dock


The dock may be the most underused item in macOS. Many people doesn't know how they can yield benefits of the Dock. Lets review what we can do to simply get more benefits from the Dock. (Fact: OSX Dock is a patented technology by Apple).

You will have the Dock taking up most space in your screen. So lets clip it off. Open system preferences using Launchpad, if you don't know the Launchpad, look at the picture below.

The icon for System Preferences, looks like this.

Once you are in there. Find the "Dock".

Lets go over for the settings for The Great OSX Dock. I suggest you to follow into these settings.
Ticking minimize into Application icons will not create additional minimized apps in side of dock. Showing indicators would be helpful. Those two settings are useless to be used together.

Lets go for a quick overview. Once you are done. You got a great setup now. Automatically hiding Dock will give you more space to deal with your stuff. Here is a tip.
Clicking COMMAND + OPTION + D will switch the Dock's Automatically Hide option.
